Office 2013 For iOS And Android Coming March 2013

One of the major things that I’ve always wanted to be able to do on my iPad is to write a Word document for school, papers, or for work. Unfortunately this is not supported native on iOS and while Microsoft has pretty decent Office Web Apps having a native well done app would of course be better.

In a press release seen by The Verge, Microsoft’s Czech Republic team confirmed what we have really all been waiting for. This will bring the Office suite to a major platform so people can use the same software that they use on their PC as on their tablets and other mobile devices. Currently Apple has their version of Word, named Pages, for iOS which people are starting to adopt since it offers full iCloud support and you can make changes to documents on the fly, but since Pages isn’t offered on Windows computers it is used by very little people for their place of work, or school. The quote in mention is below.
In addition to Windows, Office will be also available on other operating systems, Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian.
I know that I would diffidently pay for and use Microsoft Office on my iPad as long as Microsoft really put the time into the app. Nothing would be more disappointing than if Microsoft put this app out for iOS, and possibly Android, just for the app to be HTML5 based and therefore not to work very well and be a pain to use. If Microsoft nails the app though it would bring the Microsoft Office suite to a whole new market and could really expand people’s use of Office, which would be nothing but good news for Microsoft. Also this app could possibly convince a few people to take a look at the Microsoft Surface tablet since they would be happy with other Microsoft products. So hear that Microsoft? Get to work.
